In cases where a photograph is commissioned, the copyright ownership depends on the date of the commission. For commissions before July 30, 1998, the copyright belongs to the individual who commissioned the photograph. For commissions after that date, the copyright belongs to the photographer, except for photographs taken for private or domestic use, such as wedding photographs and portraits.
